Following several days of torrential rain, metro area officials are closely monitoring rising water levels at the Reservoir. The Pearl River Valley Water Supply District has responded by increasing the discharge from the Reservoir’s spillway in an effort to manage the heightened inflow.
As of today, the Pearl River at Jackson has surpassed 28 feet, reaching the official flood stage for the area. Local authorities are warning residents to prepare for minor flooding in parts of the capital city, as water continues to rise.
These developments have prompted concern among homeowners, particularly in light of the 2020 flood event, when the Pearl River crested at 36.7 feet and at least 450 homes in Hinds and Madison counties were affected. Emergency management teams remain on alert as they track the situation and coordinate response efforts.
