On Sunday, September 27, Reservoir Police began searching for a possible missing person after a jet ski was found without a rider on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The watercraft was discovered near Brown’s Landing, which is close to the area where the Natchez Trace crosses the reservoir, just north of the Highway 43 bridge.
Officers and emergency crews responded to reports of a jet ski floating unattended. They started search efforts in the immediate area. As of Sunday evening, authorities had not confirmed the identity of the possible missing person or released details about the owner of the jet ski. No body has been found.
The search area is within the primary recreation zone along the eastern side of the reservoir. Residents living within two to three miles of Brown’s Landing and the Trace Crossing saw increased police and rescue presence on the water and along the shoreline throughout Sunday afternoon and into the evening.
Police have not issued warnings or activity restrictions for nearby neighborhoods, but boaters and visitors in the area should expect temporary access limits near the search zone. No timeline has been given for when the search will end. Crews plan to continue looking until they find more information.
Authorities have asked anyone with information about the jet ski or its rider to contact the Reservoir Police Department at (601) 992-9894 or email [email protected]. Residents should report anything unusual, but do not need to change regular routines. Local parks and marinas remain open outside the active search area.
