Madison County Issues 30 Day Burn Ban Amid Drought and Wildfire Concerns

The Madison County Board of Supervisors approved a Burn Ban this morning. This ban applies to all of Madison County, including neighborhoods and properties within two to three miles of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The Burn Ban takes effect immediately and will last for 30 days. The board may change the length of the ban if weather conditions improve or worsen.

The county called for the ban because of drought conditions and a recent increase in wildfires. During the ban, residents should avoid any outdoor burning. This includes burning yard debris, leaves, or using open fire pits.

Law enforcement officers will monitor for violations. They can issue citations or other penalties for anyone who does not follow the ban.

Residents near the reservoir should plan for these restrictions for at least the next month. If the board changes the ban, updates will follow. Avoiding outdoor burning helps keep homes and neighborhoods safer during these dry conditions.
