Pearl River Clean Sweep Mobilizes Volunteers for Annual Watershed Cleanup

The 10th annual Pearl River Clean Sweep will take place on September 19, starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until the work is finished. Cleanup teams will spread out along the Pearl River watershed, including areas near the reservoir and throughout 15 counties and 2 parishes. The effort covers over 490 miles, from Nanih Waiya, Mississippi, down to the Gulf Coast.

Organizers encourage residents within the 2–3 mile radius of the reservoir to participate or support the event. The cleanup focuses on keeping the river drinkable, swimmable, and fishable. Over the past decade, volunteers have removed more than 200,000 pounds of trash from the river.

Participants can view a list of cleanup sites, register, or sponsor teams. Local impacts may include increased activity along riverbanks and parking areas on cleanup day. Residents should expect some traffic and temporary noise from volunteers and equipment. The event will help maintain the quality of water and outdoor spaces used daily by nearby neighborhoods.
