Rankin County’s outdoor burn ban has been lifted effective September 15, 2026, according to an alert from Rankin County Emergency Management. The announcement states that the Rankin County Board of Supervisors and the Mississippi Forestry Commission lifted the ban.
Officials urge residents to continue using caution when burning outdoors, as conditions can still be dry. Anyone conducting a burn should keep water and tools nearby and never leave a fire unattended.
The lifting of the burn ban does not remove restrictions on what can be burned. According to the alert, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality rules prohibit burning household trash, plastics, tires, and treated or painted wood. Man-made materials may not be burned.
Residents should call 911 if a fire gets out of control.
